Patients living with multiple sclerosis and depression spend years searching for the right treatment.

And while there’s been remarkable innovation, some patients still don’t have a treatment that works for them.

A new treatment can make a difference in a patient’s life. They help some patients immediately, and in the process, bring hope to all patients searching for the right treatment.

Big Insurance doesn’t see it that way. With the help of the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review, every patient is reduced down to cold, hard numbers. ICER uses something called a Quality Adjust Life Year, or QALY. to deny patients access  It’s a math formula that compares the life of a person battling a disease with that of a healthy person, plus the cost of the medicine.

This week, ICER will evaluate new treatments for multiple sclerosis and depression at its May 23 meeting in Rosemont, Illinois. ICER is poised to deny patients access. It has already indicated it doesn’t think patients with MS and depression are worth the cost.

We have an important message for ICER:

Patients are not a number. Patients living with depression and multiple sclerosis have the same right to access treatments as anyone else.
